The art and science of regional anesthesia, particularly in the field of peripheral nerve blocks, have significantly advanced over the past two decades. The demand for its use has been increasing due to its clinical benefits, high success rates, and improved safety. Furthermore, it provides excellent postoperative analgesia and reduces opioid usage.

To enhance knowledge and skills in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia among anesthesiologists in Asia, several regional anesthesia experts from different areas came together to form RA-Asia. This organization hosts a conference that rotates among member countries, including Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and India.

This year, Thailand is once again hosting the meeting, with the Department of Anesthesiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University, located on the east coast of the Thai peninsula, chosen as the venue. Typically, the conference features both academic lectures by experts and ultrasound-guided workshops with volunteers. For the first time, this year’s conference will include a cadaveric workshop alongside the main lectures and healthy volunteer scans. This addition allows participants to practice needling techniques and assess the spread of local anesthetic after injection.
